April 2022 Newsletter

Spring is finally here, though the weather has been all over the place this month. It wouldn’t be Chicago otherwise! Here are a few immigraiton updates to keep in mind this month:

Online Filing for DACA Renewal Forms

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that DACA participants wishing to renew their status can now file Form I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals online. This is a great convenience, but if you have any doubts on how to fill it out, we encourage you to get in touch with us!

USCIS Changes Requirement for Conditional Permanent Resident Interviews

Also this month, USCIS announced a new risk-based approach when waiving interviews for conditional permanent residents (CPR) who have filed a petition to remove the conditions on their permanent resident status. Prior to this, all CPR applicants had to go through an interview. Now, evidence will be taken into consideration and only some applicants will be asked for an interview.

Paying USCIS Fees with Credit Cards

Last but not least, applicants can now pay most, if not all, fees related to immigration forms with a credit card, using USCIS Form G-1450, Authorization for Credit Card Transactions. Just be aware that leaving a balance on your credit card can lead to interest rates of 20% or more.
