DHS Partial Shutdown: TSA Begins Processing Paychecksown: What Travelers Need to Know
Last month, we noted that a partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was underway. That shutdown is still ongoing, but there is a recent development worth noting.
A DHS official confirmed that TSA has begun the process of paying its workforce and TSA workers will begin receiving paychecks as early as Monday, March 30, after an executive order was signed by the President.
In Chicago, travelers at O’Hare have not experienced the extreme wait times seen at other airports around the country. However, the current administration has deployed ICE officers to assist at several major airports, including O’Hare.
According to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, ICE personnel at O’Hare are expected to perform non-screening support functions. This includes monitoring exit lanes, making routine passenger announcements, and assisting with managing lines.
If you are traveling through O’Hare right now, here is what we recommend:
- Arrive early.
- Bring all of your travel documents. Make sure they are current and valid.
